Abstract

The results of the discourse related to the search for the optimal model of Ukrainian national identity are systematized. The manifestations of the identity crisis in independent Ukraine and the process of overcoming it by reorienting the national worldview from social identity to the purposeful formation of a model of national identity are characterized. The possibilities, content and prospects for the formation of a modern model of Ukrainian national identity are analyzed. The main directions of its formation include: restoring justice in relation to Ukrainian national culture; identification of citizens with the Ukrainian nation as a socio-cultural community; creating conditions for the formation of tolerance, dialogue between other ethnic groups; consolidation of the state and society on the basis of civil unity; involvement of all spheres of public life in the process of creating Ukrainian national identity. The main directions of overcoming the identity crisis in the process of modernization of Ukrainian society are identified: 1) development of a system of stable institutional guidelines corresponding to the current stage of modernization of Ukrainian society; 2) gradual mastering of a pluralistic type of self-identification of the individual, which involves free, creative, open personal search and choice; 3) filling identification practices with new content, with an orientation towards combining in the minds of subjects of socio-political development real and symbolic worldviews; 4) creative assimilation at the level of state power of Western standards of consumption, standard of living, individual freedom with the aim of their establishment in national social practice. It has been found that the formation of a model of national identity requires the establishment of a balanced policy aimed not only at stabilizing the current situation, but also at a long-term strategy for the renewal of society, which should be based on a deeply realized responsibility of a free person.
