LIFE SAFETY AS A PHILOSOPHICAL CATEGORY OF MODERN HUMAN EXISTENCE
DOI: https://doi.org/10.17721/2415-881x.2025.98.12-25
Abstract
This article explores life safety as a complex philosophical category encompassing a multidimensional spectrum of issues related to human existence, moral choice, social conditions, and global challenges. The author analyzes the historical evolution of safety concepts – from basic survival in the primitive world to a modern, comprehensive understanding of the term, which now includes not only physical but also spiritual, social, individual, and planetary dimensions of safety.
The influence of philosophical perspectives on the problem of safety is examined, including legal, moral, religious, existential, sociocultural, psychological, and globalist approaches proposed by thinkers such as Plato, Aristotle, Augustine of Hippo, Erasmus of Rotterdam, Thomas Hobbes, Immanuel Kant, Sigmund Freud, Erich Fromm, Karl Jaspers, Michel Foucault, Bertrand Russell, and others. Security concepts are analyzed through the lens of such phenomena as war and peace, institutional control, freedom, justice, dignity, identity, spirituality, and technological transformations.
The article identifies four main levels of safety: individual (personal stability and psychological well-being), social (guarantees of rights, justice, institutional resilience), global (international security, balance of power, human evolution), and philosophical-ethical (moral and spiritual foundations of secure existence).
It is concluded that life safety is not merely a matter of practice or politics but primarily a philosophical and ethical challenge that requires deep reflection on the very essence of the human being, their place in the world, and their responsibility for the future.
