DOI: https://doi.org/10.17721/2415-881x.2021.86.131-147
Abstract
The purpose of the research is to analyze the political component of the activity of the culturist of the Cyril and Methodius Brotherhood P. Kulish, which is poorly studied in the domestic socio-humanitarian studies, and its «apolitical nature». It has been proved that the fact that P. Kulish considered politics «heartless and deaf» and called for «neglect of politics» cannot be a confirmation that P. Kulish was an apolitical man.
The methodology of work is based on the principles of historicism, impartiality, integrativity, systematics, objectivity with the use of general scientific methods.
The analysis of the activity of the culturist Panteleimon Kulish shows that in all its multifaceted cultural and educational work, politics as a component of the life of every person, of course, was present in P. Kulish. The mere fact that P. Kulish has repeatedly stated that politics is «heartless and deaf» and even called on Cyril and Methodius to neglect politics «cannot and does not mean that P. Kulish was out of politics. In fact, P. Kulish was constantly in politics, although he often hid it «under a lampshade. » And in this context, it is probable that P. Kulish can be understood if we take into account all the hardships he had to go through after his arrest as a member of the Cyril and Methodius Brotherhood, and then more than three years in exile in Tula with a ban on publishing for almost 10 years. All this indicates that P. Kulish, being a versatile and encyclopedically educated man, was able to separate grain from chaff, and, consequently, populism from politics.
